Let's Get Rolling with Our Class Blog

Welcome, All, to our class blog! This is where you'll begin to post your work and where we'll have class dialogues and share other musings. To start things off, I'd like you to read this article and, here, post a brief response to it. What do you think? Here's the article: "5 ways news sites are using ‘Most Popular’ features to help readers surface more content."

  1. I agree that the wording of "most viewed" versus "most emailed" would attract or detract more attention. People are influenced by others no matter if they are willing to admit it or not. Therefore, eyes are naturally drawn to recommendations like "most viewed" because they want to know what the most popular stories are right now and what everyone on the street is talking about. People want to be constantly in the loop and know everything about things from pop culture to hard news stories, so easy share links such as "most emailed" are extremely effective.

  2. I believe that the words "Most viewed" would serve as the best wording for the purpose of drawing readers attentions. People like to follow the crowd, they want to be "in the know," and be able to talk about popular issues with other people. If they see the words "most viewed" it will automatically draw them in. I also think this section should be located in a main area of the screen, wheres readers eyes will automatically go, kind of like the headline on the newspaper. If this were the case, it would be difficult for people not to click on the links.

  3. When I view an article, I look at the number of times it was viewed. Although I have viewed articles that were considered "most popular" I've never looked at it as if there was not enough info as to why it was the most popular. "Most emailed" has never been appealing to me either although in the post it seems to catch readers attention. Also, items on the right side grab my attention more. I hardly ever look to the left when scrolling on news websites.
